When we told Megan we planned on riding Segways on day 3, she was not exactly excited. Something about "not with my scary, bizarre, and elderly parentals, blah, blah, blah".
We found a place in Golden Gate Park that rented Segways, and Megan soon realized the park held much weirder-type people than her parents. Stan was kind enough to only fall off once, which made Megan laugh so hard, she almost fell off. That Megan--she's probably not my go-to-girl when I need sympathy. Although she was kind enough to help me up when I fell down the non-moving escalator. Twice.

We've never been on a Segway before, but it was SO FUN! Even Megan had to agree it was a great day.
It took only a little practice before we were zipping along at our top speed of 10 mph.
I want one of these babies for my birthday.
The park was fabulous---acres and acres of beautiful statues, works of art, grass, flowers, and trees.

Unfortunately, many of the park buildings were closed on Monday. Guess which day we choose to go to the mostly closed park? We sure know how to schedule things!
Next time we go to San Fransisco, I want to spend a week going through the Science, Art, and Botanical Exhibits we missed this time.
After several hours Segwaying and walking from closed exhibit to closed exhibit, Megan was hungry AGAIN (why does this child weigh less than a billion lbs???). She tried the Lamb's Ear foliage, but remembered she doesn't care for lamb.
We headed back to Fisherman's Wharf for a crab dinner.
A perfect end to a fabulously fun day!
After dinner, we climbed into a double decker, open air bus and toured the city.

These Californians sure know how to find big trees!
Although we felt safe in San Fransisco, and the city was beautiful and mostly clean and cared for, there were sections of town that were rougher. This area had large amounts of homeless people. We saw lots of sickly-looking beggars.
I love the Victorian houses of San Fransisco--but it is hard not to notice the contrast between these mufti-million dollar "painted ladies" and the sad lives of people just a few blocks away.
Day three was a magnificent day. I'd like to return to San Fransisco before another 30 years fly by and do today again!
Those segways look like they were way fun! Will you take us on your next trip?!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blast! I have wanted to try one of those Segways. Who took the cute pictures of the three of you?
ReplyDeleteWe had a guide take us around Golden Gate Park--that's the only way they let Segways in the park. She gave a great tour, kept us from giving lost, and took pictures of us.
